BiJae was never a good co worker. He was always lounging around while I was digging ditches, or layin pipe. In the five years on the job with me I can't recall once that he offered to lend a hand. He did however make good with the resources at hand. One of the jobs we worked while doing landscaping had a pool. We had a particularly large project to do there and I was working long hours. It was mid July in the foothills of California and it was H O T.
I couldn't believe what happened next. I picked up the rake and started raking the edges near the pool, trying to get them just so. Mr. BiJae decides to take a dip. He saunters over to the edge of the pool. I'm amazed that he knows exactly where the stairs are. He puts his two front paws in the pool and laps up a mouthfull to quench his thirst. Then he slowly walks in to the water swimming away from the edge. He makes it about half the length of the pool and then turns back to the stairs. I swear I heard, "ah, that's better" as he climbed back out of the pool. The little bugger was living the life or riley at a very young age! I guess that's when he realized he had it good.
After getting out of the pool, BiJae was always very invigorated. He'd climb up the stairs and race towards me. He'd jump at me to play a game of "tag". He'd pounce at me and I'd run. Then he'd try to trip me or grab my ankle to tag me. Once I felt him close on my heels I'd turn and charge at him. Dripping with water was always his favorite time to play this game. Every time he got out of the pool it was PLAY TIME!!! I'd have to wacth out cause if I didn't see him get in the pool he'd catch me in a sneak attack!!!
For the five years that we worked together, BiJae never really got much accomplished. Not structurally at least. What he did manage to get done though, he did with great ease. He got me to smile, and take a break. To laugh out loud with out a care in the world. BiJae was great at getting me to not take myself so seriously. BiJae was the best co worker because he kept me in good spirits, and always in good company! Now let's go find a pool, BiJae!!! |
